Where To? (どちらまで?, Dochira Made?) is the 13th and final episode of Odd Taxi anime series.

Synopsis[]

  • Gouriki was able to gain access to Odokawa's childhood journal, which details various events from Odokawa's past. A young Odokawa wrote that he wanted to work at a zoo when he grew up, because his anxieties around other people made him relate to animals more. He was ruthlessly bullied at school, even by the administration, and abused by his mother, who took out her frustrations with his absent father on him. Though his father was rarely home, when he did show up, he gave Odokawa gifts, and left him at his favorite place, the zoo.
  • The car chase between Odokawa, Sekiguchi and Yano, and now the Daimon brothers continues, with Sekiguchi and Yano becoming more violent and ramming their car into Odokawa's taxi. Eventually, they burst through a closed road that ends with an unfinished bridge. Sekiguchi and Yano stop short, but Odokawa ends up going over the bridge.
  • Homosapiens lost the Loser's Bracket, likely due to the argument Shibagaki and Baba had during their routine. Notably, Shofutei had to step down from his role as a judge due to the recent death of his daughter. Shibagaki and Baba meet to discuss whether the two should really split up, and, despite what he said earlier, Shibagaki begs Baba to keep the group together.
  • Shirakawa calls Gouriki in worry about Odokawa after seeing the car chase on the news, and the two begin to make their way to the harbor to help Odokawa. Gouriki reveals to Shirakawa that Odokawa has visual agnosia caused by executive disfunction, and describes it as Odokawa not knowing what he's looking at due to brain damage. They stop the car, suddenly, as they see the car chase on a nearby bridge.
  • Nikaido thinks back on Yamamoto's advice to find a story to stick to regarding the recent news, despite her desire to tell the truth. Ichimura thinks back to her school days, where she was mocked by her classmates for family's poverty, and wished to become rich someday. Wadagaki remembers her mother telling her to do whatever it takes to achieve her dreams. Eiji Kakihana thinks back to the badger games Ichimura had run with him. Tanaka contemplates suicide by jumping off a bridge, as he feels he has nothing left in life. Kabasawa scrolls through his new Twitter account, trying to recreate his viral success.
  • Everyone watches in awe as Odokawa's taxi goes over the bridge and into the water, with the money from the robbery flying out of the damaged trunk. The rest of Odokawa's journal is revealed, which details the day of the accident. Odokawa's mother brought her inebriated husband and her son for a drive, which started fun for a young Odokawa, who thought the cars and street lights were pretty. He remembers suddenly waking up in a hospital bed, unable to recall what happened before, and seeing all of the people who frightened him before as unintimidating animals. One day, a tapir brought Odokawa to an organization in Tokyo that would take care of him, and he resolves to thank him one day. Before Odokawa can drown, Shirakawa once again comes to his rescue as she swims to where he sank and attempts to get him out of the taxi.
  • When Odokawa wakes up in an ambulance, instead of the animals they had been before, he sees Gouriki and Shirakawa as humans standing over him. When Gouriki asks if he is still afraid of other people, he says no, though he is still shy around Shirakawa.
  • Later at a hospital, an injured Dobu is visited by Koshiro Daimon, who lets him know that an officer will arrive soon with his arrest warrant, and reveals that he was the one who shot Dobu at the harbor. Dobu points out that Kenshiro would be arrested too, but Koshiro has made peace with this fact.
  • Shirakawa visits Odokawa in his hospital room, where they watch a news report of Nikaido being arrested for the murder of Mitsuya, as well as Yamamoto, Yano, and Sekiguchi being arrested for disposing of the body. He then remembers driving a girl to Mystery Kiss's office on October 4th.Imai then comes to visit and, while shocked about the news, wants to hear Nikaido out before deciding whether he should continue to support her or not. He then gives Odokawa the money that had been in the taxi, who initially refuses it, before deciding on giving it to Kuroda as repayment.
  • Odokawa meets up with Kuroda at the sauna, and muses on the harm he has brought through his crimes. However, Odokawa notes that he has helped many people, too, and does not admonish him for the bad things he has done. Kuroda then says that he is going to retire due to his regrets about Mitsuya's death and his subordinates involvement with it. He reveals that his one rule is, "Don't kill people," and Odokawa gives him the money to use to continue helping orphaned children.
  • Odokawa returns to his house to find out what exactly was staying there, and finds out that it was just a cat, to his relief. Homosapiens continues to perform together. Tanaka, back at his job, uninstalls Zooden from his phone. Kabasawa is continuing his studies, while still trying to make another viral post. Kakihana is taking various jobs to repay his debt, per Odokawa's advice. Dobu is now in prison for his crimes. Shirakawa and Gouriki are still working together at the clinic.
  • Wadagaki calls her mother about being transferred to a bigger agency after the fallout of Mystery Kiss, noting how well things are going for her. She thinks back on the night of October 4th when she murdered Mitsuya. She then ends her search for the taxi she rode in that night, and she hops into it, as Odokawa asks where she wants to go.

Trivia[]

  • "Where to?" the episode title is the last line Odokawa says in episode 13, and also his first line episode 1.
  • The lucky ballpoint pen can be seen in Wadagaki's hand when she calls her mother.
  • From the episode previews it is hinted that Homosapiens lost their access to radio broadcast after Nikaido got arrested, which is why Odokawa was listening to Bonnou Illumination on the same radio channel.
  • After Odokawa recovered from his visual agnosia, the background scenery became more vivid and less blurry. Before, many objects had a distinct double blurred outline.
