Hajime Tanaka (田中一, Tanaka Hajime) is a character in Odd Taxi. He is a 24-year old company employee.
Biography[]
Tanaka works at a game company. He has a quiet personality, but when he gets into a game, he tends to get into it. Owned a cockatiel named Maru, which tragically passed away.
When he was a kid, he used his father's credit card to buy a rare Donraku eraser for a huge amount of money online, but got swindled by the seller and never got it. This and his father's reaction emotionally damaged him. He later became a video game programmer, working for a company making mobile games.
During the events of the anime, he becomes obsessed about a mobile game, which spirals out of control when Odokawa's reckless driving accidentally causes him to drop the phone just when he achieved finding a super rare item. This causes Tanaka to become unhinged and don a mask, get a gun, and try to kill the man he blames for his problems. After shooting up a restaurant, he finally confronts Odokawa in a parking lot, right after he helped Dobu steal the lottery winnings. In the hold-up, the rare eraser falls out of Dobu's pocket, making Tanaka realize it was he who swindled him as a kid, and Odokawa also identifies him as the unknown user in the mobile game who got the rare item before him. This causes Tanaka to shoot Dobu, but then he freaks out and runs away. We learn in the last episode that he successfully recovered and beat his addiction, and has gone back to work.
