What You Really Want

(radio noise)

Fukumoto

Recently, we were able to ride in the green car,

so thankful for that.

(Note: green car is the first class carriage on the Shinkansen)
Kondo

It just so happened, right?
Fukumoto

Yeah, we usually take the normal cars.
Kondo

Because it was a time when…
Fukumoto

All the fans swarmed us.
Kondo

Stop going on about it already.
Fukumoto

Enough about that.

So, what did you do during those two and a half hours?
Kondo

I took a nap.
Fukumoto

I wanted to nap too, such a precious chance to take a nap.
Kondo

You didn't do it?
Fukumoto

I don't know what happened, but I had stomachache.
Kondo

Wow, that sucks.
Fukumoto

It might have been whatever god knows that I ate in Osaka.
Kondo

Stop it!
Fukumoto

It was a *bleep* *bleep* revelation of my earthly desires.

(Note: this is a pun on their name Bonnou Illumination = Earthly Desire Revelation)
Kondo

Eh?
Fukumoto

More or less.
Kondo

(Laughs) So lame.
Fukumoto

Right, so I was going to the toilet.
Kondo

I guess you had to go.
Fukumoto

There is a smoking room in front of the toilet.

Did you know that smoking rooms are now for single users?
Kondo

Ahhh, recently, right?
Fukumoto

I don't smoke, but when one person was smoking,

there would be at least 2 or 3 people waiting outside,
Kondo

Uhuh.
Fukumoto

Looking at their phones.
Kondo

Yes.
Fukumoto

Sorry, but I kind of pity them.
Kondo

It can't be helped, right?

The journey is long, too.
Fukumoto

And then, when I glanced at the person in front of the line,

it was Shibagaki-san from Homosapiens. (Laughs)

So I was like, "Good morning!" and he replied, "Hey."
Kondo

(Laughs) Nothing wrong about that.
Fukumoto

Nothing wrong at all.

And, because I had stomachache,

I was going to the toilet multiple times, right?

Then when I was done with my business,

it was finally Shibagaki-san's turn.
Kondo

Well, as it should.
Fukumoto

He was inhaling the smoke so deeply.

while looking at Mount Fuji.
Kondo

(Laughs) Well, that's normal actually, looking at the scenery.

Are you making fun of him?
Fukumoto

I wonder what he was thinking about.
Kondo

Well, most probably about work,

work after he reached Tokyo,

or work the next day.
Fukumoto

Hey hey hey, you're making fun of him the most.
Kondo

I'm not.
Fukumoto

You're hinting that there's probably no work for him.
Kondo

It can't be that he doesn't have any work.
Fukumoto

And, this may sound a bit non-sanitary

but I went to the toilet many times.
Kondo

Cause you were having a stomachache, right?
Fukumoto

And every time, I would see Shibagaki-san inhaling so deeply.

Sometimes looking at the fields.
Kondo

(Laughs) We don't need details about the scenery.
Fukumoto

He was always in there, it was almost as if his seat was left empty.
Kondo

As if the smoking room was his seat, huh.
Fukumoto

At the end, he went back to the normal car though.
Kondo

(Laughs) Alright, that's enough. Let's read some fan mails.
Fukumoto

Allright.
Kondo

"From old folks to you."

In this segment Bonnou Illumination, who just turned 25 this year, gives advice to old folks.

This is from "You became a mackerel."

(Tanaka barges into the office)

Tanaka

(out of breath)
Gouriki

Hey,…what's wrong, what's wrong?
Tanaka

Take a look at me, this is a clinic, right?
Gouriki

What time do you think it is right now?

It's way past consultation time.
Tanaka

(stepping closer)

You're already closed.

If you have time to listen to the radio then take a look at me.
Gouriki

How rude, I may look like this, but I'm actually still working.

(Sigh) Well, it's fine, what on earth happened?
Tanaka

…I lost it.
Gouriki

Hm.
Tanaka

Hm.
Gouriki

What?
Tanaka

There's a gaping hole.
Gouriki

Hm.
Tanaka

Hm.
Gouriki

Where?
Tanaka

Hey, you're a doctor, right?
Gouriki

It's obvious no matter how you look at it.
Tanaka

Then heal me to how I was before.
Gouriki

I don't know how you were before.

If you don't tell me something, I can't do anything.
Tanaka

Then, would you ask an unconscious patient

who's brought in, "What happened"?!
Gouriki

Wait, calm down, you can communicate, right?
Tanaka

Give me medicine.
Gouriki

What kind?
Tanaka

The kind that can cure the feeling of having lost something.
Gouriki

There's no medicine that can directly pinpoint that feeling.
Tanaka

Tsk. Useless.

(turns to the door)
Gouriki

Wait a second.
Tanaka

What?
Gouriki

You, what's your name?
Tanaka

...Tanaka.
Gouriki

How old are you?
Tanaka

...24.
Gouriki

First, can you tell me about…
Tanaka

Shut up!

"Time heals everything",

"It's something everyone has to go through",

"Some have it worse than you",

"The day you want to die is another day that someone wanted to live",

I've heard those words a million times!
Gouriki

I haven't anything though.
Tanaka

(Scoffs) Things that come out of a middle aged man's mouth

are just their view on life that are actually preaching,

and at the end of the day, it is just them bragging about themselves.
Gouriki

You're quick to jump to conclusions.

First, just talk to me, that's what I'm saying.
Tanaka

Is there no curiosity left in you?

"What happened to this young man who barged into my clinic after consultation hours?"

I'm sure you're dying to know, right?

After you get home, you'd tell the wife and kids, saying things like

"Today, this guy came to me, isn't he crazy? Makes you laugh, doesn't it?"
Gouriki

I give up.
Tanaka

Do you know the thoughts of someone who tries to get you to confide in them?

They just want to confirm their significance.
Gouriki

How twisted are you?

Doctors are not in a position to give life advice to patients.

They can only use drugs to approach the problem from a scientific point of view.

Somewhere in you, you started to believe (this idea) that doctors are superior, that's why you say things like that.

We are on equal standing.
Tanaka

Gouriki

I am happy you came to me.
Tanaka

…Really?
Gouriki

Yeah. Although it is outside consultation hours,…
Tanaka

See?! You were annoyed! That's why adults can't be trusted!
Gouriki

Wait, I honestly welcome you.

Doctors don't get feelings mixed with work.
Tanaka

…Really?
Gouriki

Yeah!
Tanaka

What if I said I had a toothache?
Gouriki

Go to a dentist.
Tanaka

You're getting feelings mixed into it, aren't you, you lying bastard!!
Gouriki

Ok, ok! Then, let's do this.

Treat me like I'm your age from now on.

Talk to me like how you'd normally chat about random things with your friends.
Tanaka

…How old are you?
Gouriki

41.
Tanaka

Tsk.
Gouriki

Yo, Tanaka! Long time no see!
Tanaka

There's no way I can do this instantly!

I need more than 6 months to prepare for my role.
Gouriki

Really?

I don't feel awkward at all though.
Tanaka

Look in the mirror,

your presenece is like someone much older than your actual age.
Gouriki

I'm sure you had people your age who were like that?
Tanaka

Well, there were,

those who acted like they had finished most of their life events.
Gouriki

Yes, imagine that you had a reunion with someone like that,

and try doing this.
Tanaka

Eh?
Gouriki

Yo, Tanaka! Long time no see!
Tanaka

(Stutters)
Gouriki

It's me! Gouriki!
Tanaka

Ah…ah…, Gouriki, huh?

You haven't changed a bit…

Uhm, back then you were also so,… fatherly, right?
Gouriki

How are things recently? Have you been hard at work?
Tanaka

Work…ah, I…went to work for a game company.
Gouriki

Oooh! You've always loved games since back then, haven't you?
Tanaka

That's true, but if it's work, it's hard to continue with just interest.
Gouriki

Is that so… is it tough?
Tanaka

Well, yeah, so tough I barely have time to sleep.
Gouriki

So it's because of that, huh?

You don't look so well.
Tanaka

Nah, that's nothing.

It's hard, but I kind of enjoy what I do.
Gouriki

Is that so…

then, is it because you are heartbroken or something?
Tanaka

(Scoffs) Love life is a ray of light moving away into the distance.
Gouriki

I see.

Have you been eating well?
Tanaka

Instant ramen all the time.
Gouriki

You must eat properly or else…

You liked that, didn't you?
Tanaka

What?
Gouriki

That burdock thingy.
Tanaka

Burdock?
Gouriki

Boiled until it's sweet.
Tanaka

Did I really?
Gouriki

Was I wrong?

Ahhh, somehow I had that impression of you.

(Laughs awkwardly)
Tanaka

I liked… tangerines.
Gouriki

Ahhh, that's right, that's right!

You couldn't resist tangerines at all!

You could even guess the type of tangerines.
Tanaka

Hey, Gouriki.
Gouriki

Uhh, what is it, Tanaka? What's up?
Tanaka

…Where do emotions lie?
Gouriki

…emotions…
Tanaka

Which part of the body do emotions lie?
Gouriki

From the medical point of view, it is said to be in the brain.

But your chest pulses, and feels tight, so it might also be said to be near the heart.

But as for you, I mean, as for Tanaka, your emotions appear on your face,

(Gouriki corrected himself from addressing Tanaka as "kimi", or "you", as it can sound condescending, so instead, he addressed Tanaka by his name)

and when you stamp your feet when frustrated, or when you show happiness with your entire body

it might also be said to be all over the body.
Tanaka

That's wrong.

Maybe emotions lie with someone else.

When you get hurt because of others, a gaping hole opens.

Everything is affected by others.
Gouriki

No. Your emotions are within you.

If you have a strong hold on them, others won't.
Tanaka

Then, the sense of loss after losing something important,

where are those emotions now that left that gaping hole?

How can I close it?
Gouriki

Tanaka

Hey, Gouriki, please tell me.
Gouriki

This is embarrassing, but…

I can only think of the set phrases you mentioned just now.
Tanaka

(Scoffs) Just kidding.

Don't look so serious, Gouriki.

You've been so serious since back then.
Gouriki

(Awkwardly) Oh I see. You were trying to scare me like that!
Tanaka

Y'know, Gouriki,…

When you got something you really really wanted, what would you say?
Gouriki

What I would say?
Tanaka

Try saying it.
Gouriki

"Yay." I guess.
Tanaka

With that level of excitement?
Gouriki

"Yay!" Yeah, it'll be something more like this.
Tanaka

I see, that's so… mature.

I was embarrassed to shout with all my might.
Gouriki

Did you get something (you wanted)?
Tanaka

…When I was a kid there were many things I wanted.

I had to restrain myself most of the time.
Gouriki

Yes, it was the same for me.
Tanaka

Even for a family like yours,

that could get someone into Medicine, it was like that too?
Gouriki

Of course! I tried with all my power to beg my parents to buy me stuff.

Saying that I would do my best in my tests, or helping out around the house among other things.

That made me even happier when I get my stuff.
Tanaka

Yes. I'm still chasing after that emotional high.

But there's something wrong.
Gouriki

Isn't it because you have also grown into an adult?
Tanaka

I wonder what it is…

Gouriki, is there something you want right now?
Gouriki

Yeah, I do.
Tanaka

How long have you been wanting it?
Gouriki

For half a year maybe?
Tanaka

Are you not able to get it?
Gouriki

Ahhh, I'm not able to.

I do my best, and try many times, and when I'm chosen, I will finally be able to get it.

What we really want can't be bought with money, and that's why it's tough.
Tanaka

(Cheers up) That's right. What we really want…
Gouriki

Huh?
Tanaka

…can't be bought with money, challenges, or loss…

(Giggles) I will definitely fill this hole.

I will definitely get it!!
Gouriki

Hey, Tanaka, are you allright?
Tanaka

Thank you for encouraging me.

I wasn't wrong after all.
Gouriki

Are you allright now?
Tanaka

Yeah, it would be great

if you can get what you want, too.

(Walks to the door)
Gouriki

Wait a minute, Tanaka.

What are you putting into your back?
Tanaka

Hey, doctor,…

…if…

…I have achieved my goal,…

…can I come back here again?
Gouriki

Of course. Doctors do not choose their patients,

but next time, come during consultation hours, ok?
Tanaka

(Grins and leaves)
Gouriki

(Big sigh of relief)

(turns on radio)

Kondo

And so, we have given advice to a few people.
Fukumoto

Losers like us trying to act important, right?
Kondo

And so, Fukumoto-san, please announce the MVP for today.
Fukumoto

Okay, the person who said he would never get invited to a reunion,
Gouriki

Eh?
Kondo

"Doctor Gorilla", right?
Fukumoto

Yes, we will send "Doctor Gorilla"

a Bonnou Illumination jumper as present!
Gouriki

(Gasp) YAAAAAY!!!!!
